AutoTrader.ca car photos for Canadian dealers

Build an AutoTrader.ca photo gallery for your Canadian dealership: understand current capacity, choose useful shots, and check the uploaded listing.

Written by Andre, Team Motuva4 min read

A useful AutoTrader.ca gallery lets a buyer inspect the vehicle before contacting your dealership. The job is to answer their questions with photographs, rather than fill every available slot with similar angles.

This guide is for Canadian dealers using AutoTrader.ca. Auto Trader in Britain and Autotrader in the United States are different destinations; their photo advice should not be used as Canadian account rules.

Separate capacity from shooting advice

TRADER's current Used Vehicle Listings page lists presence on AutoTrader.ca with up to 50 photos in its dealer-package comparison. Read on October 8, 2026, that is the published capacity to consult alongside your own account details.

Its October 2022 photography guide recommended at least 11 photographs and discussed galleries of up to 30. That older recommendation is not evidence that today's dealer upload limit is 30.

Neither number tells you how many photographs a particular car needs. Start with what the buyer needs to see, then check that the set fits the current account allowance. This guide does not promise an enquiry increase from reaching a particular photo count.

Build the gallery around unanswered questions

Before photographing, walk around the car and write a short list of what distinguishes it. Does it have an optional seat configuration? A useful cargo feature? Visible wear that deserves a close-up? Use those questions to plan the detail shots.

The gallery should normally cover four jobs:

  1. Identify the vehicle. Clear exterior views show its overall shape and appearance.
  2. Show the space. Interior and cargo-area photographs help someone understand the layout.
  3. Show the equipment. Photograph relevant controls and features clearly enough to recognize them.
  4. Show the condition. Include honest close-ups of wear or damage alongside the wider views.

These are our planning categories, not an AutoTrader.ca mandatory shot list. A small car and a family vehicle may need different detail photographs. If an image answers no new question, replace it with one that does.

For camera position and repeatable exterior angles, use the general dealer shot-list guide. Keep the channel-specific decision here: which of those images belongs in this Canadian listing?

Choose an order before uploading

Pick the first image deliberately. Use a clear exterior view in which the vehicle is easy to recognize, with enough room around it for a crop. Follow with a logical walk around the exterior, then the interior, equipment and condition details.

Avoid hiding an important condition photograph among a run of duplicates. A buyer should be able to connect a close-up to the part of the car it shows. A wider view followed by the detail often makes that easier.

Keep the approved files together under the vehicle's stock reference. Mark the intended lead image clearly and retain the originals in a separate folder. This gives whoever performs the upload a ready set, rather than asking them to reconstruct the photographer's choices.

Use studio images for the job they do

Motuva Studio prepares exterior presentation shots with a studio background. Those can sit alongside the original interior, equipment and condition photographs in your selected gallery. Background presentation is one part of the work; a complete vehicle inspection still needs the photographs you take yourself.

Compare each finished exterior with its original before using it. Check wheels, mirrors, glass and visible condition. If an output makes a detail ambiguous, choose a clearer photograph or reshoot that view.

The marketplace's photo capacity and a photo processor's allowance are separate things. You can combine processed exterior shots with original detail images. You do not need to process every picture simply because the listing has room for it.

Download the selected images and use your normal AutoTrader.ca upload or inventory-feed process. This is a file workflow, not a claimed direct Motuva integration with TRADER.

Review the Canadian listing as a shopper

After the upload or feed update, open the public vehicle page. Check the actual gallery, rather than assuming the folder's order survived the handoff.

Does the first image show the right car? Can you find the important interior and condition details? Has a crop cut off a useful feature? Are the description and the photographs telling the same story about equipment and condition?

If something is missing, correct the published set and save the approved version for the team. Your finished gallery is the one shoppers can see, not the one waiting in a folder.
