CDK Global car photos: AI imagery for your inventory

How Motuva works alongside CDK Global: AI studio images processed in Motuva, then uploaded to your inventory and listings as you do today.

Written by Andre, Team Motuva4 min read

CDK Global is one of the largest dealership software providers in North America — its Dealership Xperience Platform spans the DMS, CRM, F&I, fixed operations, vehicle inventory and digital retail for dealerships and OEMs, processing hundreds of billions of dollars in automotive commerce a year. If your store runs on CDK, it is the backbone of how the business operates.

This article is about something CDK is not in the business of: the photographs themselves. Motuva is not a DMS, does not touch dealership operations, and does not compete with CDK Global on anything. It does one narrow job upstream of all your systems — turning lot photos into consistent studio-quality images. Those images then flow into your inventory and out to your listings the same way your photos do today.

What stays where

CDK runs the dealership. Inventory records, deals, F&I, service, the data layer that everything else reads from. Nothing about that changes, and Motuva never touches your CDK environment or your data.

Motuva produces the images. A phone photo taken on the lot goes in; a studio-quality image comes out — consistent environment across the whole inventory, license plates handled on every image, your branding embedded if you want it. The output is full-resolution JPEG or PNG files that behave like any other photo in your merchandising workflow.

The workflow

  1. Photograph the vehicle during intake or recon, with a phone, wherever the vehicle is parked. The usual angles: exterior, interior, wheels, trunk.
  2. Process the set in Motuva. Upload through the web app, choose the studio setting, download the finished images.
  3. Upload the images into your merchandising flow exactly as you handle photos now — into the inventory record, your website provider, or your syndication feed. To every system downstream, they are simply image files.

There is no integration to configure before you can start. For dealer groups that want the processing step automated into intake rather than handled manually, Motuva's Ultra plan includes API access — images processed programmatically and ready to attach to the record. The manual download-and-upload workflow works on every plan from day one.

Why the photo step deserves its own tool

In an operation where the DMS handles everything from the deal jacket to the service lane, vehicle photography is often the least systematized step — whoever is free shoots the car, wherever it happens to be parked, in whatever light the day offers. The result shows up on your VDPs: forty vehicles, forty different backgrounds.

The evidence on what that costs is consistent: listings with better, more complete photo sets get more engagement and more leads — the data is collected in do better photos sell cars faster?. Processing every photo into the same clean environment turns photography from the least consistent step in the operation into one of the most consistent, without changing who shoots the car or where.

One channel note: most marketplaces restrict text and overlays on listing images, so keep syndication-bound uploads clean — overlays and burned-in branding belong on your own website and social channels.

The honesty rule

The vehicle in the output is the vehicle you photographed — its own pixels, composited into a rendered studio, with nothing about the car itself generated. Check each output against the original anyway before it goes on a listing, the same way you would verify any customer-facing document: a difficult shot can separate imperfectly from its background, and the listing is yours. The background is presentation; the vehicle the buyer comes in to see must be the vehicle in the photos.

What it costs

Motuva's pricing is flat monthly amounts, not credits — relevant for stores used to enterprise software procurement, because there is no contract negotiation and no demo cycle. Free is 20 images a month at full output quality with no watermark, using the studio library. Pro is $49 a month for 150 images plus build-your-own studios. Ultra is $99 a month for unlimited images and the API. Most dealers process three to eight images per vehicle, so Pro covers roughly 20–50 vehicles a month; high-volume groups above roughly 500 vehicles a month have bespoke Enterprise pricing. Details are on the pricing page.

The same pattern on other platforms

Nothing here is CDK-specific. The pattern — photograph, process, upload to the system of record, let your systems distribute — is identical for stores on Tekion and for independents running DealerCenter. The DMS does what it does; the photography step improves on its own track.

Test it on your own inventory

Take the photos behind one of your current listings, run them through the free plan, and put the output next to what is live. Twenty free images a month covers a handful of vehicles — enough to make the call on your own inventory rather than a demo.
