Each marketplace sets its own rules, and only its own published policy can tell you what it accepts. Here's what the two named here publish, quoted from their own pages and dated, and what a Motuva image changes in your photo.
Auto Trader
We read Auto Trader's three published sets of terms on 12 September 2026. Here is what they say about images.
Its advert images terms set the count and the one image rule it enforces: "You are permitted to upload a maximum of 100 images", and "The Advertiser is prohibited from displaying any text on images, including but not limited to, contact details including telephone numbers or e-mail addresses, details of third party affiliates or finance offers." Breaking the text rule may, at Auto Trader's sole discretion, result in the removal of all of that retailer's adverts — not just the one.
Its advertising guidelines do not mention images or photographs at all. They cover price, mileage and video.
Its advertising terms are the ones that reach photos directly. All advert content, "including but not limited to any text, photographs and/or videos", must "be accurate in their description of the vehicle being displayed", and Auto Trader reserves the right to remove a photograph, or the whole advert, where it isn't.
None of the three mentions edited, background-replaced or AI-generated images. On 12 September 2026 Auto Trader published no rule on them either way. Silence is not permission — ask your Auto Trader account manager before you rely on an edited image.
Cazoo (formerly Motors.co.uk)
Motors' standard advertising terms for dealers now serve from Cazoo's dealer site — Motors.co.uk Limited trades as Cazoo. Read on 12 September 2026, they put accuracy on you and name images while doing it: "The Dealer is solely responsible for ensuring that all content and materials it provides to Cazoo (Dealer Content), including vehicle listings, pricing, images and contact details, are accurate and up to date." They say nothing about edited, background-replaced or AI-generated images, and that dealer site publishes no separate image guidance.
Cazoo also gives private sellers a photo tip on its sell-my-car page, where Motors' old photo-tips page now forwards: guidance for a different seller, not dealer terms. Read on 24 October 2026, it asks for decent light, every angle with the interior included, and blemishes shown rather than hidden, and says nothing about edited or AI images.
Other marketplaces
We haven't described any other marketplace's rules. Check each one's own published policy before you list.
What a Motuva image changes, and what it doesn't
- The car is your photograph. Motuva cuts it out and places it in your studio, and doesn't change its colour, condition, badges or specification.
- The background, the floor and the shadow under the car are new. If a marketplace asks for unedited photos or real backgrounds, a Motuva image is an edited photo.
- If you use plate covers, your branded plate goes over the real one.
Your responsibility
Regardless of how an image is produced, it must not misrepresent the vehicle. Motuva images show the car as it appears in your source photo. Using Motuva doesn't change your obligations around accurate listing representation.
Checking your platform's current policy
Marketplace image policies change. For what your platform accepts today, check its seller or dealer help centre, or ask your account manager. The links above were correct on 12 September 2026.
Questions from your account manager
If your marketplace account manager asks about your image production process, you can describe Motuva as AI automotive imaging software that produces studio-quality listing photos from dealership source photography.
