How to Add Your Dealership Logo to Every Car Photo Automatically

Manual logo placement is slow and inconsistent. How to apply your dealership's branding automatically to every listing photo.

Written by Andre, Team Motuva7 min read

You have 45 cars on site. They have all been photographed, backgrounds replaced, and the images are ready to upload.

Now someone needs to put the dealership logo on each one.

If that means opening every image in an editor, positioning the logo, resizing it, saving the file, and repeating 45 times — it will not happen consistently. It might not happen at all. Logo placement will be one of those tasks that gets done when there is time, which means some cars have branded photos and some do not.

Automated logo embedding solves this. Set it up once; every photo you process gets your branding applied in the same position, at the same size, every time.

Why Branded Car Photos Matter

Your photos are the first thing a buyer sees when they find your stock on your own website, your social channels, or your showroom screens. That is your branding opportunity. (One important caveat first: marketplaces like Auto Trader restrict overlays and logos on listing uploads — more on that below.)

An unbranded photo is a missed opportunity. It looks like stock photography rather than your stock. There is nothing in the image that connects the car to your dealership.

A photo with your logo tells the buyer where it came from. It reinforces your name at the point of maximum engagement. And if the photo gets shared — buyers forwarding listings to partners, screenshots in messages — your branding travels with it.

The other practical reason: listing platforms display your name and contact details near the image, but that context disappears when the photo is shared or saved. Your logo in the image is the one element that stays attached regardless of where the photo ends up.

The Problem with Manual Logo Placement

Most dealers who brand their photos do it manually. They have a Photoshop template, a Canva file, or a simple overlay they apply to images one at a time.

This works for a small number of photos. It falls apart at scale.

Inconsistency. Different people placing the logo in slightly different positions. Different sizes on different photos. Logo cut off on some images, too small on others. The effect is a gallery that looks like it was assembled by multiple people working separately — because it was.

Time. If it takes 30 seconds per photo and you process 50 cars a week, that is 25 minutes of manual work every week. Plus errors, rework, and the photos that get missed entirely.

Dependency. The task depends on someone remembering to do it and having the right file to hand. When they are busy, it gets skipped.

Automated embedding removes all of these variables. The logo goes on automatically, in the right place, at the right size, every time.

How Automated Logo Embedding Works

In Motuva Studio, logo embedding is part of the studio configuration.

You upload your dealership logo once. You set its position — corner, bar, panel — and size. That becomes part of your studio configuration alongside your background settings. (Whether to brand the studio background itself is a separate decision — see branded vs plain studio backgrounds.)

Every photo processed through your configuration gets the logo applied automatically. You do not do anything additional. The branding is part of the output, not a separate step.

Where Branded Photos Belong — and Where They Don't

One honest caveat before you configure anything: marketplace image rules restrict overlays and logos on listing uploads. Auto Trader's terms for advert images, for example, do not permit text overlays or dealer branding burned into listing photos, and other marketplaces have similar policies.

Logo embedding and banner overlays are for the channels you control: your own website, your social media, your showroom and stock displays, and shared or printed material. For marketplace listings, upload clean, unbranded versions — and check each marketplace's current guidance before uploading branded images anywhere you are unsure about.

The practical pattern: run two outputs from the same shoot — a branded set for your own channels, a clean set for the portals.

Logo Placement Options

Where you place your logo affects how it reads.

Corner placement is the most common approach. Lower left or lower right, enough margin to keep it clear of the car's bodywork. Readable, unobtrusive, clearly attached to the image without competing with the car.

Banner overlays run across the bottom of the image: a strip containing your logo and optionally additional text — a promotional message, a phone number, a strapline. More visible than a corner placement, useful if you want to carry messaging alongside the logo.

Panel placement positions the logo in a consistent area of the image — the lower third, the upper corner — that avoids overlap with the main subject. Works well when the background is clean and there is open space in the composition.

There is no single correct choice. What matters is consistency: pick one configuration and apply it the same way to every car.

Logo vs Promotional Overlays

Logo embedding is about brand identity. Promotional overlays are about messaging.

Some dealers use both: a persistent logo in a corner position and a rotating promotional banner that changes with campaigns — finance rates, end-of-month offers, "just arrived" flags.

These are different functions and they work together. The logo identifies the dealership; the overlay carries the current message. Both can be part of the same studio configuration, updated as needed.

With an automated system, updating a promotional overlay means changing the configuration once. Every photo processed after that change includes the new overlay. You are not manually updating 50 images.

How Your Logo Is Applied — What to Prepare

A few practical points to make automated embedding work well:

Use a version of your logo designed for overlay use. A logo on a white background that sits on top of a dark car photo will look like it was inserted from a different document. You want a version of your logo on a transparent background (PNG), or a white/light version that works over the range of background tones you use.

Check it against your background configurations. If you use both light and dark studio backgrounds, make sure the logo reads clearly against both. A dark logo on a dark background, or a white logo on a light background, will disappear.

Keep it appropriately sized. A logo that is too small does not read at thumbnail size — the scale at which most buyers first see your listing photos. A logo that is too large dominates the image. Aim for clear readability without competing with the car.

The Setup in Motuva Studio

Logo embedding is available on the Pro plan and above.

Pro. 150 images a month. Upload your logo, set your position, apply it as part of your studio configuration. Every photo you process includes your branding automatically.

Ultra. Unlimited images, everything in Pro, plus API access (the API is Ultra-only). For dealers with higher-volume stock or multiple sites.

Free. 20 images a month, no card required. Free accounts access the background library and can try the output before upgrading. Logo embedding and custom studio configuration are available from Pro.

The Practical Workflow

Once configured, the process is:

  1. Take your car photo on a phone.
  2. Upload to Motuva.
  3. Your studio configuration runs: background replacement + logo + any overlays.
  4. Download the finished, branded listing photo.

No additional steps. No separate editing pass. No individual logo placement. Every image that comes out of Motuva is ready to publish on your own channels.
