Switching from Spyne, CarCutter or another imaging tool — what to expect

A practical guide to moving your imaging workflow to Motuva — what's different, what stays the same and how to make the switch straightforward.

If you're currently using another imaging platform and considering Motuva, here's what the transition looks like.

What changes

Pricing model. Most dealer imaging platforms use credit-based or usage-based pricing. Motuva doesn't. You pay a flat monthly subscription and generate as many images as your plan allows. There's nothing to top up, no packs to buy in advance and no credits that expire. If you've been managing credit spend as a routine task, that goes away.

The imaging process. The workflow is straightforward — upload a photo, pick a studio, generate. If you're coming from a platform with a more involved workflow (physical props, photo booth requirements, longer turnaround), Motuva is faster. A phone photo from the forecourt is sufficient.

Studio customisation. On Pro and Ultra, you build your own studios rather than selecting from manufacturer-supplied templates. This gives you more control over the look but means a short setup session the first time — picking your room, backdrop and lighting.

What stays the same

The output format. Motuva produces high-resolution JPEG images, the same format you're already uploading to AutoTrader, Motors.co.uk and your other listing platforms. Your upload process doesn't change.

The review step. You should still review every image before it goes live. This is standard practice regardless of which tool produced it.

Your listing platform accounts. Switching imaging tools doesn't affect your relationships with your listing platforms. You upload different images; everything else stays in place.

How to start

The Free plan is the best way to run Motuva alongside what you're currently using. Sign up, take a few cars through the Motuva workflow and compare the output. No card required, no commitment.

When you're confident in the results and ready to move across, you can cancel your previous subscription and upgrade Motuva at the same time.

One thing worth knowing upfront

Motuva is generative AI, not a conventional photo-editing or compositing tool. The results are produced to a very high standard, but there's natural variability — especially in fine details like plates and badges. Most results are ready to use immediately; occasionally you'll re-generate. That's an honest description of how the product works, and it applies to the category as a whole.
